ENHANCED LEADERSHIP PROGRAM with CAPT GERI GAMBALA
In line with the Enhanced Learning Package initiative of our Director, Philippine National Police Academy, we met our guest speaker who left a remarkable impartation on our life, especially in our future service to the country. Former Captain Gerry Gambala was a member of PMA Class of 1995 and was convicted of the crime of coup d etat. He was one of the founders[1] of the Magdalo Group, composed of military soldiers who fought against the government and staged the famous Oakwood mutiny. The speaker started his speech by asking us what we value most in our life. Upon listening to him, there was a self-realization about how I lived my life and found my true purpose in entering the academy. Is it about the compensation, pay, money, and the job? Or is it for the dedicated service for our country?
He made me realize that we are the so-called chosen few to serve with the utmost integrity for our country and fellow countrymen. This admission here in the academy is not a mere accident or luck, but it is a calling to my purpose in life by joining the uniformed service of men. As a future public safety officer, I should inculcate in my heart and in my morality the true essence of service and policing, leading my men and doing the job by serving the country to the best of my ability. Indeed, Captain Geri Gambala disturbed my inner self by making me realize my true purpose in life.
In conclusion, to efficiently serve the people and enforce the law of our country, we must be equipped not just the knowledge and leadership skills, but also the values and character a leader must possess. Internalized the core values taught to us in our 4-year stay in the academy and established the principles we have gained through our experiences and discernment in life. Indeed character and values matter most.
